Philip Evan Cowlishaw (Prem Daas) began his spiritual path on his 19th birthday while traveling home from Michigan State University, hung-over and depressed. "Are you there God? Do you exist? Please help me." He began reading all that he could about God, Religion, and Spiritual Thought. He studied Tai Chi Chuan with Carol Yamasaki, learned meditation from reading Stephen and Ondrea Levine, entered into Group and Individual Therapy, and continued to be inspired to love, serve, and laugh by his mother, Myra Jane Freeman. In 1995, he felt compelled to become a born-again Christian. Soon after, he became a Roman Catholic and a Secular Franciscan. He studied Communications and Music in college, Opera in Graduate School at DePaul in Chicago. In New York, he lived as a professional actor for 4 years, attended Sathya Sai Baba Meetings and joined the Unitarian Universalist Church on the upper east side. In 2004, Philip moved to Hollywood (thus fulfilling a childhood dream), but quickly moved into an Ashram with a Guru where he worked 2 jobs, served several ministries, and slept only 4-5 hours a night. Drawn to the city of peace and love, he moved to the Medicine Buddha Temple in San Francisco in 2006. While later living near Haight and Ashbury, he composed and completed his first musical CD, Dawn of Awareness, which is music celebrating both the Jnana and Bhakti paths of Yoga. From there, he moved to our nation's capital where he met his 2 final teachers, Jackie O'Keeffe and Komal. Most recently, he moved to Austin, Texas to be near Komal, to sit in silence, and to continue the sharing of Devotional Music with All.
He delights in offering 90-minute Singing and Meditation Events (see Calendar page).
